Another Holy Day for the Hindus is coming up. They just call it Holy. Everybody celebrates it. It's sort of like Christmas or Halloween. The kids really get into the act big time. The main thing they do is throw paint at people. Here in northern India, the rule is to ask before you plaster someone (this rule applies before the Holy day begins). The eve of and the day of Holy it's every man for himself. No more asking.
San San Nu and I were at the polytechnic school were I teach music. Towards the end of class we could hear a lot of commotion down in the courtyard. There was so much noise over the loudspeakers and Hindu chanting that I dismissed class early. As we walked out onto the balcony and looked down we could see the girls and the head mistresses daughter smearing each other with paint powder and throwing water balloons. The head mistresses daughter had one of those huge gallon water guns which she was using to spray everyone. Needless to say when my class came out they wished San San and I happy Holy and smeared paint powder on our faces. Luckily we slipped out the back way and didn't get sprayed with water.
